What families can expect during the Bedford Eagles basketball season.
Planning for the Basketball Season
Bedford Eagles programs generally run from the fall through the winter, with some teams continuing into the spring.
Families should expect basketball activities during the week and on weekends throughout the season.
Practice days, times and locations cannot be confirmed when registration opens. Team schedules are finalized after rosters, coaches and gym assignments are confirmed.
Typical Season Timeline
Registration
Registration opens during the summer. Some age divisions may reach capacity.
Player Classification
Classification sessions take place before regular league rosters are finalized. Registered families receive their session information by email.
Practices Begin
Practices begin after rosters are formed, coaches are confirmed and gym assignments are available.
League Games Begin
Metro Basketball League schedules are normally released near the end of October, with regular league play following.
Team Practices
Most Bedford Eagles Metro teams have one scheduled team practice each week.
Competitive (REP) Division 1 and Division 2 teams are normally scheduled for two practices each week. An additional fee applies to Competitive (REP) teams receiving the additional practice time.
Practices are generally scheduled on weekday evenings, although weekend practices may occasionally be required because of facility availability.
Bedford Eagles uses available school and community gyms. Some teams may practise outside Bedford where required because of limited facility availability.
Metro Basketball League Games
Metro Basketball League teams play against clubs throughout Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding areas.
- U10 and U12: Games are normally scheduled on Saturdays between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- U14 and older: Games are normally scheduled on Sundays between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Game times and locations vary from week to week. Families should expect to travel to different gyms throughout HRM during the season.
The Metro Basketball League, not Bedford Eagles, creates the regular league game schedule.
Occasional exhibition, tournament or make-up games may also take place outside the regular league schedule.

Bedford Eagles cannot confirm a player’s regular practice night, coach, game time or gym location when registration opens.
Schedules depend on team formation, coach availability, gym allocations and league scheduling.
Families should not register based on the expectation of receiving a particular coach, practice night, game time or location.

Metro League Teams
- One regular team practice each week

Competitive (REP)

- A greater overall time commitment

Because Bedford Eagles relies on school and community gym facilities, practices or games may occasionally be cancelled or moved when a facility becomes unavailable.

Attendance and Team Commitment
Regular attendance helps players develop skills, understand team systems and contribute to their team.
Families should make every reasonable effort to attend scheduled practices and games and notify the coach as early as possible when a player will be absent.
Competitive (REP) teams have additional attendance expectations.
