Program at a Glance

Weekly Practices

Teams generally practise at least once each week. Competitive (REP) teams may receive additional practice time depending on age group, team level and available gym space.

Weekend League Games

Teams play scheduled Metro Basketball League games, normally on weekends, at gyms throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Player Development

Practices and games focus on skill development, decision-making, teamwork, sportsmanship and game understanding.

Recreational (REC) and Competitive (REP)

Recreational (REC)

REC teams are formed to provide balanced, development-focused basketball for players within the age division.

Teams participate in regular practices and Metro Basketball League games throughout the season.

Competitive (REP)

Competitive (REP) teams are formed from the higher classification groups and compete in the applicable upper Metro divisions.

These teams may receive additional practice time and may participate in exhibition games, tournaments or other competitive opportunities.

How Are Teams Formed?

Players participate in Player Classification before Bedford Eagles forms regular league rosters.

Evaluators assess each player’s current basketball skills, game knowledge, movement, decision-making and overall level of play.

Classification results are then used to group players with others at a similar current level and to support appropriate roster placement.

Final placement also depends on registration eligibility, available roster space and the number of teams Bedford Eagles can support.

Registration Does Not Guarantee a Metro Roster Position

The number of Metro teams Bedford Eagles can offer may be limited by available gym space, qualified coaches and roster capacity.

Where demand exceeds available Metro roster positions, the Bedford Eagles Registration Priority Protocol applies.

Practice days, times and locations are determined after teams are formed and gym assignments are confirmed.

Some teams may practise outside Bedford because of limited gym availability.
